On 10 July 2025, ESB, through its wholly owned subsidiary Gort Windfarms Ltd., submitted applications to An Coimisiún Pleanála (formerly An Bord Pleanála) in respect of the Derrybrien Wind Farm Decommissioning Project.
In accordance with planning requirements, two separate but related applications were submitted simultaneously:
- An application for Substitute Consent in respect of the retained elements of the existing wind farm development (the “Retained Development”) and
- An application for Planning Permission for the proposed decommissioning and associated works (the “Prospective Development”).

As of July 2026, both applications remain under consideration by An Coimisiún Pleanála. The assessment process is ongoing and involves a detailed review of environmental information and compliance with applicable planning and environmental legislation.
Gort Windfarms Ltd. continues to engage constructively with An Coimisiún Pleanála and Galway County Council, and to respond to any requests for information, in order to support the timely progression of the applications in line with statutory requirements.
